Thursday1

Femme du Coupe is celebrating the start of the fifth season of Mad Men (which resumes March 25) with a month of Mad Men-themed cocktail classes, starting with Three Martini Evening tonight. Theyll teach you to make the Martinez, Negroni, and the Southside.

The grand opening of new Wrigleyville tavern Wheel House, in the old Messners space, features an open bar, menu samples, and a DJ set by Nigel OReilly. The menu includes five different game burgers (including bison, elk, and ostrich) and four whiskey flights.

The third annual Little City Food Frenzy features bites from Mana Food Bar, Coco Pazzo, and Farmhouse, among others. There will also be a raffle and a Mystery Wine game to benefit the Little City Foundation.

The latest installment of Big Joness family meal series is a Creole Lenten dinner, ca. 1900. Its based on turn-of-the-century Louisiana recipes and includes Sally Lunn with honey marmalade, clam fritters with sauce flamande, and trout court bouillon with butter beans and boiled rice.

Friday2

Bee Movie Weekend kicks off today and features screenings of the documentary The Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Ellen Page, about the effects of the declining honeybee population. Tickets include your choice of snack or drink (provided by chefs Jason Hammel of Lula Cafe and Matthias Merges of Yusho), and there will be a cash bar. A portion of the ticket and concession sales go to Chicago Honey Coop.

The Highwood Sky Lantern Festival includes a barbecue cook-off, food and drink specials, live music, a 5K buddy race, and sky lantern decorating.

Crown the best chowder in town tonight at the second annual Chowdah Feston board a 1940s-era merchant vessel. Twelve local chefs are competing, including Giuseppe Tentori of GT Fish Oyster, Mark Steuer of the Bedford, and Susan Goss of West Town Tavern, Goose Island will have a tap station; proceeds from the event benefit the Sea Scouts youth sailing program. Mercadito is highlighting Mexicos Pacific coast at its latest regional dinner. Chef Patricio Sandovals menu includes ceviche estilo Acapulco, a lime-marinated red snapper with orange pico de gallo and tomato-guajillo broth. Specialty cocktails from the region will also be featured.

Berwyns Autre Monde Cafe Spirits is collaborating with North Shore Distillery on a Mediterranean-style four-course dinner matched with the distillerys spirits. Dishes include wild boar confit, braised radishes with shallots paired with North Shores Fresno pepper-infused vodka, and oysters on the half shell with absinthe mignonette paired with North Shores Sirene Verte Absinthe. Reservations recommended.
